People all over the country suffer every day having to deal with people who call their telephones and say they are someone who they are not. This is growing trend in the country and criminals are getting much more daring when it comes to identity theft over the phone. In recent times there have actually been many people calling others telling them they are from some sweepstakes that the individual supposedly won. They claim they need to verify the winnings, and tell the individual they are in some position in law enforcement. Usually they claim they are detectives. In recent crimes over the phone these people actually do research and use real information from real detectives that work in the area of the target victim.

They give some bogus information referring the victim to sources that they have already set up in an attempt to gain the trust of the victim. People have been scammed out of thousands and tens of thousands of dollars from scams like this. Having a caller ID service in place can help to deter these things from ever happening. There are many other uses for a caller ID service as well other than just keeping criminals at bay. Often times there are families with young daughters that may be dating much older men that should not be dating the young girl. This is just an example, but these men may try to contact the daughter through the use of the household phone. Having caller ID on the household phone would identify this person’s true identity. This information can then be passed on to law enforcement so they can take legal measures to put that person in jail if need be.

Fake callers are one of the biggest nuisances people deal with every day through their telephone. These fake callers can be anyone from telemarketers trying to sell something, to political parties and survey people. These people cause huge inconveniences in the lives of many average people. Most people do not want to answer the phone to find they are speaking to a telemarketer. The same goes for people who are doing surveys and also political candidates that are trying to get votes or pass on other information that is not wanted. In this day and age with so many people in financial debt, the amount of people calling individuals phones to collect debt and other information is far higher than ever before.

Having caller ID will alert individuals if someone from a specific business or organization is calling simply to collect a debt. People who are in debt will choose when they want to call these companies, and until then there is really no reason for bill collectors to keep calling over and over again. Some of these organizations will have people calling at seven in the morning, and at ten at night when most people are in bed or getting ready for bed. Behavior like that is just rude, and pushes people further away from talking to a person that is trying to collect a debt. Having a caller ID service in place will stop all of the fake callers trying to steal information, and also all of the other unwanted people who try to communicate over the telephone.

With the latest breakthrough in Caller ID technology, consumers now have the final say about who they choose to talk to and when. Today’s telecommunication technology now offers a simple device for the phone, which will show blocked unwanted calls from anywhere and anyone. This includes collection calls, telemarketing companies, and other annoying fake caller phone calls. These unobtrusive calls are now no longer anonymous and once the callers realize you know who they are, unwanted callers will stop bothering you. People no longer need to feel defenseless. There are various Caller ID services, depending upon the telecommunication carrier. These unblocking apps will reveal the real caller’s identification if a call is blocked, including the full name of the callers, if available.

With this Caller ID app, consumers have the power to reject all unwanted callers, by ignoring all calls from a no call list which you can compile. When unwanted callers ring you, all they’ll hear is a message telling them that your number has been disconnected. Caller ID technology was first introduced in the 1990s. Consumers at the time, could dial * 6-7, or ask their phone carrier to conceal their number when making outgoing calls. To start a reject list, all you have to do is to write down the full phone number, including the area code from the Caller ID, and then perform a reverse phone search. A reverse phone search, ideally reveals the person’s contact information, consisting of their name and address. Once you let the unwanted callers know that you have their personal information, this is guaranteed to stop all annoying calls. A majority of these unblocking Caller ID tools offer different tiers of service plans. One version offers a straight Caller ID unblocking feature which allows consumers to set up unwanted caller lists. The other versions offer additional features, to include voice mail transcription, incoming call recording features, plus other tools.

These new products work by sending a blocked number through a software system that identifies the initiating phone number. That phone number is then sent to the person receiving the call. The person answering the call can then decide whether they want to accept that call. When you get a call on your phone, showing a blocked number, you then hit “decline.” Even though the caller will hear ringing in the background, with a disconnect message attached, within a few seconds, your phone will start ringing again, but at this time, it will display the caller’s phone number, even if it has been blocked. Right now, this new app service can be downloaded on the phone carrier or each app company’s web site. Presently, this Caller ID unblock app is only available with a limited number of telecommunication carriers, but other carriers will soon offer the unblock Caller ID apps. The unblock Caller ID services, invite consumers to try them for free for a certain amount of time, followed by a non-contract service, which can be canceled at any time.

Using a fake caller ID, or caller ID spoofing is a method in which data transmitted through the caller ID receiver in a phone is deceived into projecting a different number to the recipient of the telephone call. While at a first glance it would seem that most uses for this technology would be illegal or nefarious, however there are several applications of ID spoofing that have a relevance in the business world. For some lines of work the technology is almost indispensable.

Tech support workers are often working from numerous different locations. You may call tech support that is working in another city, state, or even another country such as India. When tech support needs to call you there are times when they may be working from home on a private phone, and thus can use call spoofing methods to show a universal company number. This not only helps you be allowing you to call the company and then contact the support tech by an extension number, but it also helps protect the privacy of their personal phones.

Bond agents gain a benefit from this technology when investigating people who have jumped bond. Someone who knows that they have gone off their bond will rarely answer a telephone call from their bondsman. The same goes for their friends and family who might be contacted in the process of tracking the bond jumper down. While many people will not answer the bond office call, they may be more willing to answer another number.

Private investigators can find use in this technology in much the same manner as bondsmen, however more often than not an investigator will be seeking to remain anonymous. Posing as a wrong number, or business call can help facilitate their investigation, without the number being tracked back to a personal or office number.

Debt collectors can also make use of this feature. Many people will simply ignore a debt collectors call when they know they are behind on a bill. While they may ignore a call from the collection company itself the person may be more willing to answer a call from the bank the collectors are working for.

Repo agents may also use this technology in the course of their work. Many times repo agents work off of their personal telephones, and need to avoid people returning the call or harassing them. They may make a call off a personal phone, and send the office number so that someone wishing to contact them will be referred to a main area of contact.

Private business professionals may also what to use call spoofing when on the go. By calling a client with a spoofed ID they can send the number of their office, or company headquarters to clients. This allows them to relay the needed information without compromising privacy. This also makes it easier for the clients to get back in contact with company by offering a universal number for them to call.

These are some of the most common uses of caller id spoofing in the business world, there are several others as well, such as for branding purposes. While at first glance a fake caller id may seem an insidious plot, but after review is can be seen that there are several legal, and legitimate uses for this technology.

Fake caller ID, or caller ID spoofing is a technology which has proven to be vastly useful to the business world. Businessmen, bondsmen, and people working in the tech support industry, just to name a few, find this to be an indispensable tool to help grow their business, and streamline processes. As the technology becomes more widely available we find, sadly, that it is used more and more often for illegal purposes. In fact it is estimated that almost 75% of the time a fake caller ID is used for illegal purposes.

Harassment by use of a fake caller ID is becoming more and more common. For years caller ID technology has helped people screen their phone calls to avoid both private parties, as well as pushy businesses such as telemarketers. The innovation of caller ID spoofing however has once more opened the door to unscrupulous activities.

The law strictly forbids the use of a fake caller ID to harass people, and even a faked ID number can be traced back to the calls origin by the proper authorities. However this does not dissuade many people from using the technology for illegal reasons. Many times people simply are not tech savvy enough to understand that you can still have the call traced.

People have abused this technology for everything from simple and harmless prank calls, to stalking. Some people have used a faked caller id to direct police to a home in a practice known as “Swatting”, while others have abused a process known as voice mail hacking. Voice mail hacking can allow someone to infiltrate the voice mail of another person, using the faked ID, and delete messages that may be important.

Many abusers of ID spoofing use this technology for obscene or threatening phone calls. By using the fake ID the confuse their victims, and make the call both difficult and time consuming to track. These blatant violation of the law are some of the most commonly seen abuses of faked caller Ids.

While not as threatening some people will use a faked caller ID to simple annoy random people by calling, then hanging up. When the recipient of the aggravating calls attempts to call the numbers back, the number is often nonexistent, or a computer says that it has been disconnected.

In other types of harassment people may call a person who works in a controversial business such as an abortion clinic, and leave threatening or insulting messages. These can be as frightening and stressful as lewd phone calls.

Some people have been caught using call spoofing to defraud people. By calling and claiming to be a local fire department collecting donations, or by posing as telemarketers selling a product these thieves can acquire monetary payments through check, money order, and even steal credit card numbers by using a fake number, or even a legitimate businesses phone number to further complicate the matters.

You can protect yourself to some extent from scam artists by following the same protection methods you would use against online fraud. Be suspicious of anyone that asks for your personal information, credit card, or bank account numbers. Add your number to the National Do Not Call registry. This will help you avoid real telemarketers, but more importantly identify fake ones. In the case of threats, sexual harassment, or abuse of that nature, do not wait, call the police and report the incident. Emergency service workers have way to override a faked caller ID.

While many professionals use caller ID spoofing for legitimate business purposes (such as a lawyer who wants to return a client’s call from their cell phone without disclosing their personal number), enough advertisers have attempted to mislead citizens by using false caller ID information that legislation has been deemed necessary. This legislation is called “The Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009,” and is headed to the U.S. House of Representatives for a vote. While many professionals use caller ID spoofing for legitimate business purposes (such as a lawyer who wants to return a client’s call from their cell phone without disclosing their personal number), enough advertisers have attempted to mislead citizens by using false caller ID information that legislation has been deemed necessary.

This might have you wondering if there are any other laws on the books regarding call spoofing. The most important thing to know is that caller ID spoofing is absolutely legal; however, a few restrictions do exist regarding its use. Several states have passed laws similar to the federal bill, and these laws intend to keep caller ID spoofers from deceiving or defrauding telephone call recipients. Generally speaking, though, caller ID spoofing for the sake of a joke, prank, or even revenge is legal, as long as the phone calls don’t start to border on harassment. Most caller ID spoofing services offer recording capabilities; it is worthwhile to note that in many states recording a phone call without the express consent of all parties is illegal.

Another use for caller ID spoofing that is not technically illegal, even if it is morally questionable, is voicemail hacking. The process works by using the cell phone number you are dialing as your spoofed ID, tricking the cell phone into thinking it is calling itself. Cell phone voicemail systems which have the password protection disabled are the most vulnerable to voicemail hacking. There have been many high profile voicemail hacks, including the voicemails of tabloid queens Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. Again, what might simply be a little harmless (and legal) investigative action becomes illegal if it crosses into harassment territory. One high profile example involves a fashion house publicity director named Ali Wise, who used her Spoofcard to hack into her rivals’ voicemails and delete messages over 700 times. She faced numerous counts of eavesdropping, computer trespass and tampering, stalking, and aggravated harassment.

Then there are the obvious misuses of caller ID spoofing. Known as “swatting,” there have been some pranksters who have taken their jokes much too far by sending SWAT teams to various addresses using caller ID spoofing services. “Pranks” like this result in jail time, since the spoofing service will hand over the account holder’s information to law authorities as soon as it’s asked. Of course, using caller ID spoofing services for obvious illegal activities such as fraud or information phishing will also most likely result in intervention by law enforcement.

It is also a method of bolstering trust in the client.

This need for a uniform number is especially true for companies with tech support departments. In many cases, techs work from literally all over the country, or may be operating from a company like India or the Philippines. A growing technical support department, with an eye towards unification, will need a way to create a system that allows all of their employees to call clients, no matter where they are, while providing them with caller ID information from corporate.

By using a fake caller ID card, much like a minutes card, users can input a card number and pin, followed by their requested spoof information. When the call is placed, the individual receiving the call will see the spoofed or fake information. Because this works by using a calling card, this type of call spoofing is especially effective for calling over a VoIP system, like Skype.

Call spoofing is applicable in many other industries, however. Collections agents often use call spoofing. No person who is aware that they’re behind on a payment will willingly pick up the phone for a collection agency, but they are likely to answer a call from the bank the collector is working for. By using a number other than the number that clients are blocking from their call lists, collection agents may actually have a chance to do their job, rather than meet with multiple hang-ups.

This is also a very useful tool for criminal investigators, and private investigators who may need to speak to someone without giving away their true place of work. These legitimate uses of call spoofing put the practice in a somewhat friendlier light. Other legal uses for faking a caller ID are to spoof text messages, or to use the options on some fake caller ID cards that allow users to change the tone and pitch of their voice.

There are other uses for call spoofing that range from pranks, to illegal practices. If you use fake caller ID cards for your business, be sure you understand the rules for using them as they apply to your state or country. These pre-paid cards are easy to get, and even easier to use, bus as with any powerful technology, using them with criminal intent is illegal. It’s illegal, for instance, to use call spoofing to commit wire fraud, or fake a 911 call. These actions can be traced back to the original phone and location, even if a call spoofing card is used.

Instead, many are turning to technology like call spoofing as a tool for catching their cheating partner.

The set-up is simple. Imagine for a moment that you have a strong suspicion that your partner is cheating. If possible, review their cell phone call log and contacts to find the number of the ‘other’ cheater. Once you have this information and a simple fake caller ID card, you are ready to use call spoofing technology to catch your cheating partner.

If you were to use your own cell phone and contact information, or to hide your caller ID information, to call the ‘cheater’ it is unlikely your call would be picked up. By substituting your partner’s caller ID information for your own, you increase the likelihood of making contact. As an added benefit, the ‘cheater’ will believe your partner placed the call. This way, there will never be ‘suspicious’ calls or concerns that you know!

Technology on your side

Luckily, there isn’t a lot of complicated software or hardware involved. In fact, all that is required is a simple fake caller ID card. Think of it like buying minutes for your phone. The cost is not prohibitive and the cards are readily available on the Internet. Even better, it only takes a few minutes to change the contact information.

Some of these call spoofing programs offer additional benefits that can make collecting evidence of the infidelity even easier. In some cases, you may be able to record all or part of a conversation for later use. It is important to be careful using this feature, as it is illegal in some states to record conversations without the permission of both parties.

The possibilities for fake caller ID are almost limitless. They can be used any time you wish to keep your name and contact information private. People have had success using the technique to fake telecommunicating from home, when they are really on vacation, and to assist in skip tracing.

The future of caller ID

When caller ID was first developed, it was an ‘added’ service and one that not many people had. As technology changed, caller ID has become the norm. While most of us enjoy the ability to screen calls, it does have its downside – caller id announces us to everyone we call. Fake Caller ID is yet another step in the process of developing technologies to aid us in communications. Whether you are choosing to use Fake Caller ID to catch a cheating spouse, lie about your whereabouts or simply protect your identity, it is a tool that everyone should have in their arsenal.

As broadband internet and VoIP technology becomes commonplace, more and more offices have employees working remotely. Some of these telecommuting employees are work at home mothers, or employees with disabilities. Some are outsourced talent, who may work in another state, or even another country. So how do companies maintain their integrity with such a disparate work force? While it’s possible to tie everyone together online with email signatures and usernames, how can companies do the same for business calls? The answer is call spoofing!

Fake caller ID technology is an excellent way to tie a workforce together. Call spoofing works best over Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), which makes it ideal for international employees who are using a VoIP program, such as Skype to make calls. For a business with employees spread across the globe, it’s important to maintain the impression of a solid, traditional workforce.

That’s why so many industries are switching to fake caller ID as a way to maintain their corporate image. Consumers want assurance that the people they are speaking to are professionals. It’s hard to convey that image when business calls come from wildly different numbers. If the sales representative is calling from a cell phone and customer service is working through Skype, and the technical team is calling from the head office, it can cause a lot of confusion and mistrust on the end of the consumer.

A much better solution lies in call spoofing. With a good fake caller ID program on hand, each of these calls can appear to originate from the same source. This will alert the customer to respond to calls from any member of your team, whether it’s a response to a customer service ticket, or information from a sales rep.

Another great feature of call spoof services like Cdyne.com are text-to-speech applications that allow employees to create standardized messages that go right out to the consumer. The great Google widget that is included with this service features a dialer for quick calling. This is perfect for business who outsource to countries like India or the Philippines. With text-to-speech options, heavily accented calls are no longer a concern, and even employees without full command of English can make company calls through the aid of pre-written scripts.

Fake Caller ID

Is it legal to use a fake caller ID?
Of course it is! It’s entirely legal to use call spoofing, provided that the actions of the caller are responsible. It’s not recommended that you use fake caller numbers for illegal purposes, as calls can always be traced back to origin and location.

Where can I get call spoofing for my company?
There are several reputable brands that offer fake caller ID cards and services. The top providers are
Spoofcard, Spooftel, and Telespoof. These companies provide easy to use service that can be quickly integrated into your regular business practices.

For instance if you use one of the caller id spoofing services, and enter in the number you want to be displayed (the number you want to know who owns) without a name, 9 out of 10 times it will display the real owners name. This usually works most of the time if you are in the same area as the number in question, but it will work sometimes even if it’s not.

Although not the intended usage of fake caller ID, it is a great product and is used by private investigators as a fast, easy, and inexpensive method of obtaining ownership information of a phone number. Check it out for yourself!
